Blog: Human Protection (9) - Pay it forward

When we fall, we hope there’s someone there to catch us and if we land with a thud, we pray someone will be there to dust us down, comfort and ease the pain when we need it most. It’s this type of superhero we may well have to call on today, tomorrow, perhaps decades from now. Of course, we hope we’ll never need that superhero but if we do wouldn’t it pay itself forward by being prepared in advance, just in case.

This is what we call a Power of Attorney – essentially a legal note of who your trusted superhero will be if you are no longer physically or mentally able manage your own affairs. This hero will sit in the dark, patiently and only ever pop out if that red phone starting ringing. That hero could be your partner, a brother, sister, a dear friend. Importantly, it will be someone you trust to act in your own best interests if you can no longer do it all yourself and need that extra bit of support.

Without such support, your loved ones will be left trudging through the courts, spending £,000s to be able to give you the support you need. Once the decision is made in the months/years that follow they then need to go through the process again to renew the authority a few years later, and on it goes. An expensive, time consuming process, that can be eradicated by taking a simple step now.

It’s why we wrap up our series with a simple message, where there’s a Power of Attorney you put in place peace, clarity, organisation, love and a massive hug to those you care about. It’ll mean they can support you where you need it most. At such an emotional time, it’s the little things like this that can make a big difference, saving you time and money, which can be put to the good use elsewhere.
